A bus accident near Coonoor left 20 AP tourists injured

Twenty persons traveling in a tourist bus were injured after the vehicle hit the roadside and fell on its side along the Coonoor-Mettupalayam road near Kattery Park in The Nilgiris on Wednesday evening.

According to the police, 26 tourists from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh came to Udhagamandalam and Coonoor to see. The incident took place when they were returning to Coimbatore to board a train back to Visakhapatnam.

Most of the passengers suffered only minor injuries and were taken to Coonoor for treatment. However, the driver, identified as Seenu, was stuck inside the wreckage and it took rescuers more than an hour to get him out. He sustained serious injuries and was sent to Coimbatore for further treatment.

14 of the injured were taken to hospital. The others were treated for minor injuries and released.
