After a gap of 25 years, residents of Chinnakkanal village in Idukki have received title deeds for their land. According to officials, 236 families in Muthamma settlement under Chinnakkanal village have been granted deeds.
Chinnakkanal village officer V. Santhosh Kumar said that while 70 families had earlier received their titles during the title deed ceremony held before the Assembly elections, a total of 236 families were eligible. The remaining distributions were delayed after the election was announced. “The title deeds under the 1963 rules were distributed to the families on Thursday (June 11, 2026),” the official said.
According to the authorities, there were no legal complications surrounding the issuance of title deeds in the area. The state government took over the land from the Tata company about 50 years ago and the land is under registration number 121 of Chinnakkanal village. Officials noted that the title deeds distributed covered a total of 30 acres of land.
“Claims have been issued for plots ranging from two cents to 60 cents. Families in the area have been eagerly waiting to get their title deeds for several years. In Chinnakkanal village, the titles are being distributed after a long gap of 25 years,” the official added.
The process of preparing the title deed was led by Village Officer and Special Village Officer Gulsari Lal. Devikulam MLA F. Raja inaugurated the distribution of title deeds to the residents of the settlement on Thursday.
