Five arrested in alleged patrol attack in Ranni
The Ranni police have arrested five persons in connection with the alleged attack on a man who was accused of secretly watching women in their homes.
The arrested were identified as MK Sasi, Roji M. Raju, Jishnu P. Mohan and MS Mahesh, all natives of Chempanmukham, and TV Rejin of Thompikkandam.
According to the police, the accused allegedly assaulted Varghese Mathew, a native of Pullampally, on the night of June 7 after accusing him of voyeurism. He was allegedly stripped, tied with ropes around his hands, feet and neck and subjected to a severe assault. Videos purported to show the attack later spread on social media.
The victim is currently undergoing treatment at Kottayam Medical College Hospital with multiple injuries, including a fractured left arm.
The five accused were produced before a court in Adoor and remanded in judicial custody.
Meanwhile, the Ranni police have also registered a separate case against Mr. Mathew based on allegations leveled against him by local residents.
