Police of the Faculty of Medicine took over the preventive care of survivors in the case of ICU sexual assault in 2023 at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode, after trying to protest the director’s chamber on Thursday.
She protested against the re -appointment of five hospital employees who were suspended and later transported from an institution as a result of her complaint that they threatened her. The case related to her complaint is reportedly still waiting for trial.
When the media addressed, she claimed that the state government had always tried to protect the culprits in this case. “When I met the Chief Minister and Minister of Health, they assured me about their support. However, if they support survivors of sexual assault, it is better that they do not do it. I need justice and continue agitation until I get it,” she said. She argued that the interviewing report of the general inspector clearly referred to the unlawful conduct of these hospital employees. “I just know that the trauma I went through … These people tried to humiliate and threaten when I was still in shock and pain of the attack … They should be released from service,” she said.
The survivor came to the medical school in the morning and was looking for a meeting with KG Sajeeth Kumar, the director, and sat in front of his chamber. After some time, the police arrived and took her to preventive custody along with Noushad Thekkayil, an activist in the human rights, accompanied her. Meanwhile, the hospital authorities claimed that the re -introduction was followed by a court order.
The incident related to the case occurred on March 18, 2023, when MM Sasendran, a hospital nurse, allegedly sexually attacked it while still after an anesthesia after an intensive care unit. After an internal investigation in August this year he was released from service. Five of his colleagues, including nursing assistants, were transferred to other Medical College hospitals after being accused of threatening her and trying to persuade her to change her statement against Mr. Sasendran.
