President Donald Trump on Thursday (September 18) suggested that the federal government could cancel the licenses of broadcast television networks claiming to be “against him”.
Trump’s comments follow ABC suspension “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” The show after the host linked the alleged murderer of conservative activist Charlie Kirk with Trump’s Maga movement.
The chairman of the Federal Communication Commission Brendan Carr had previously indicated that ABC – owned by Disney – could face control of its broadcasting license if it did not take steps concerning Kimmel’s notes.
In this matter, Trump considered to be on board Air Force One when he returned from the United Kingdom.
“I read somewhere that the nets were 97% against me, again 97% negative, and yet I won and easily, all seven swinging states,” Trump said with reference to his election victory 2024.
“They only give me bad publicity, printing. I think they receive a license,” he added. “I think their license should be taken away. It will be Brendan Carr.”
Show criticism
Trump specifically mentioned criticism from Kimmel and CBS host in late night Stephen Colbert.
“Look, this should also be talked about licensing,” he said.
“When you have a network and have evening performances and everything they do is hit Trump, that’s all they do. If you come back, I think they didn’t have a conservative or something in years.
He appreciated Carra, which he nominated for the role of FCC, and said, “I think Brendan Carr is excellent, he is a patriot. He loves our country and is a hard person. So we have to see.”
Overview
