Another Dravid in India colours: BCCI picks Rahul’s son Anvay for U19 squad
Next Dravid to wear India blue. Wicketkeeper-batsman Anvay Dravid, younger son of former Indian captain and legendary batsman Rahul Dravid, has been named in the India Under-19 squad for the upcoming one-day series against Sri Lanka next month.
The Junior Cricket Selection Committee, headed by chairman Sharath Sridharan, officially announced the white-ball and red-ball squads for the bilateral task on Thursday. The tour, which consists of three one-day matches and two multi-day matches, will begin on July 4, 2026 in Hambantota.
Anvay, a 17-year-old right-handed batsman, has been rewarded for a string of consistent performances in domestic age group cricket. He will feature exclusively in the 15-man white-ball squad as one of two designated goalkeepers alongside Rajat Baghel. Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan from Madhya Pradesh was appointed as the party captain and Lakshya Raichandani was appointed as his deputy.
The selection marks a significant step in the budding career of the younger Dravid. While his elder brother Samit has previously represented Karnataka in under-19 cricket, Anvay is the first of the siblings to earn a national call-up.
The teenager recently did headlines at home circuit during Vinoo Mankad Trophy, where he led the Karnataka Under-19 team to the quarter-finals. Acting primarily as a middle-order anchor, Anvay amassed 220 runs in six innings. His campaign was highlighted by an unbeaten, match-winning 82 against Himachal Pradesh under high pressure during a thrilling chase. Before that, he also scored the first century in the under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy.
The national selectors see this tour as the genesis of a new development cycle for the Under-19 World Cup. Given his age, Anvay remains eligible for the world marquee tournament in two years’ time, so this exposure to subcontinental conditions is crucial to his development.
The Indian contingent is scheduled to leave for Sri Lanka at the end of June. The multi-day red-ball matches, for which a separate team has been named, will follow the completion of the one-day leg.
India U19 One Day Squad: Sagar Virk, Lakshya Raichandani (VC), Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan (C), Vineeth VK, Arjun Rajput, Kushagra Ojha, Rajat Baghel (WK), Anvay Dravid (WK), Anmoljeet Singh, Vutkuri Yashveer Goud, Rohit, Anil Ul Yadav, Parvaatel, Ishanh V. Sood.
