Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 is to start earlier than usual, and reports indicate the likely start from 6 January to 8 January. The shift will move the tournament from the traditional February – birch slot to avoid collision with the T20 ICC championship, scheduled in India and Sri Lanka.
The fourth edition will see the return of the same five teams from previous seasons: Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Royal Challengers Bengalur and Up Warriorz. The competition is expected to include 22 matches that will be wrapped up by the beginning of February 2026. Indians of Bombai, led by Indian Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, will enter the tournament as a champion defender.
The revised schedule is designed to provide teams for the next time of preparation and when acquiring better synchronization with an international cricket calendar. Mega auction is also expected to bring remarkable changes in the team lineups.
The cricket control council in India (BCCI) examines the possibility of expanding the tournament places. While the 2025 season took place in Vadodar, Bengalur, Lucknow and Bombi, the issue of 2026 may include more cities that meet the growing interest of fans.
Given that WPL now has a dedicated window in the Future Tours Gone Tours (FTP) program, it is expected to follow the structure of the main female leagues such as the Australian Bash League and England.
Bombai Indians claim the second title
At the beginning of this year, Bombai Indians secured their second WPL title With an exciting 8-run victory over Delhi Capitals in the final at the Stadium Brabourne in Mumbai. First, Mumbai published 149 for seven at 20 breaks, led by Captain Harmanpreet Kaur 66 and Natalie Sciver-Brun 30. Delhi Marizanne Kapp and Jess Jonassen took every two goals and admitted 11 and 26 runs.
Delhi managed 141 for nine, with the highest score of 40 and Jemimah Rodrigues added 30. Bombai pitch, led by 3/30 Sciver-Brunt and Amelia Kerr 2/25, effectively contained persecution.
The versatile Sciver-Brunt performances earned her player of the series, scored 523 runs and took 12 goals in the tournament. This triumph described the second WPL title in Mumbai after 2023 victory. Under the leadership of Kaur and coach Charlotte Edwards celebrated the team with his fans Mumbai Paltan.
