The Indian Navy natives designed and constructed by a diving support ship, Ins Nistar, performed on Sunday (September 15, 2025) in Singapore, Changi in Singapore.
Ins Nistar, authorized on July 18, 2025, is a testimony to the growing Indian independence in the construction of ships and has reached more than 80% of indigenization. The ship is equipped with advanced systems, including a side scanning sonar; Work class and observation remotely operated vehicles; and expansive diving facilities for the deep sea. During the exercise it will serve as a mother ship for a deep rescue vehicle (DSRV).
In 2018 to 2019, India introduced two DSRVs, one for each coast capable of performing rescue operations up to 650 meters. Their induction placed India among the selected group of nations that have specialized submarine rescue systems. These systems can be quickly mobilized either on the vessels or in the air to the distant sea. For XPR 25, the submarine rescue unit (east) will operate from Ins Nistar.
The vessel is under the command of the flag officer of the commanding Eastern Fleet.
XPR, organized by Singapore, is a biennial aimed at strengthening coordination in rescue operations submarines. In the edition of 2025, participation from more than 40 nations will be recorded. Exercise develops in two phases-a concomitant phase with the exchange of experts on objects, medical symposia and visits of cross deck; And the sea phase, where Ins Nistar and multinational partners perform interventions and rescue in the South China Sea.
This exercise is expected to streamline rescue procedures, share proven procedures and strengthen interoperability among maritime sailors involved in safety and rescue operations submarines.
