Relatives of Madinah bus crash victims receive ex gratia

Minority Welfare Minister Mohammed Azharuddin on Wednesday distributed outstanding ex gratia checks to the families of the two victims who lost their lives in a bus accident in Medina, Saudi Arabia, stressing that no amount of financial assistance can truly replace the loss of a family member.

The minister handed over compensation checks of ₹5,000 each to the families of late Mohammed Jaffar and late Shaikh Siraj. Soon after the tragic incident in which dozens of people died after the bus they were traveling in crashed near Madinah late last year, the Telangana government announced the financial assistance.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Azharuddin expressed grief over the loss of lives and said no amount of financial assistance could compensate the losses the families had suffered. He said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy responded quickly after the accident and ensured that all possible assistance was provided to the affected.

Mr. Azharuddin recalled that a delegation comprising himself, MLA Majid Hussain, Secretary, Minority Welfare B. Shafiullah and other representatives traveled to Saudi Arabia after the accident to coordinate relief measures and support the bereaved families.

He said the state government facilitated the travel of family members to Saudi Arabia and worked closely with the Indian Consulate and Saudi authorities to ensure smooth completion of funeral formalities and other arrangements.

The family members of the victims thanked the Chief Minister, Minority Welfare Minister Mr. Hussain and the Telangana government for their help during the funeral and the support extended to them after the accident.
