FL2 clubs must only serve alcohol to members and guests who hold ID, says TN Govt.

The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday said all FL2 licensed clubs should issue membership ID cards to their registered members and liquor should be served only to registered members and their authorized guests as per applicable rules and license conditions.

According to an official statement by the Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise, specific instructions have been issued to all bars and clubs with FL2 and FL3 licenses under the provisions of the Tamil Nadu Liquor (License and Permit) Rules, 1981.

The prescribed working hours of FL2 and FL3 bars should be strictly followed without any deviation. In clubs with a FL2 license, bar operation should remain only one of the permitted activities. Club management should ensure that other recreational, cultural, sporting and social activities for which the clubs are established are run regularly and efficiently, the report said.

Alcohol should not be sold, supplied, dispensed or served to persons under the age of 21. In cases where a person’s age is uncertain, valid written proof of age must be verified before liquor is served, the statement said.

All licensees have been requested to ensure strict adherence to the above instructions. Any violation of the provisions of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act, 1937, rules or license conditions would be considered serious and trigger appropriate action, the release added.
