Bharosa centers in Cyberabad have dealt with 786 cases of child rape and sexual abuse since March 2022, while providing financial assistance of more than ₹70,000 to victims, officials said during a review meeting on victim support and rehabilitation services.

The figures were presented during a convergence meeting convened at the Cyberabad Commissionerate on June 9 to review the functioning of Bharosa and CDEW centers and strengthen support mechanisms for victims of serious crimes.

DCP (Women & Child Safety Wing) Srujana Karnam told the meeting that victims of crimes like rape and child sexual abuse need immediate protection, legal aid, counseling and rehabilitation to avoid further trauma during the criminal process.

She noted that Bharosa centers have been set up by the Telangana Police to provide integrated services under one roof, including legal aid, medical support, psychological counseling and rehabilitation assistance from registration of FIR to completion of court proceedings.

Officials said that from March 2022 to May 2026, the Bharosa center in Cyberabad handled 472 cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) and 314 cases of rape. The Centers also allowed 908 victim declarations under Section 180 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

To support rehabilitation efforts, ₹ 70.35 lakh has been distributed to 284 beneficiaries for education, medical treatment and livelihood support through the District Victim Rehabilitation Fund.

During the meeting, stakeholders recommended measures to improve the care of victims, including ensuring that victims do not have to stay in police stations late into the night and are instead accommodated in shelters when necessary. Participants also suggested comprehensive pre-trial recording of victim statements and allocation of specialist doctors at Bharosa centers to strengthen documentation and support services.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the district office of legal services, child welfare committees, the health department, the education department, the women and children welfare department, public prosecutors and high-ranking police officers.
