Karnataka’s government officially limited ticket prices £200 through the state.
This decision made according to the newly amended rules of Karnataka Cinemas (Regulation), 2025, applies to all language films and all theaters, including multiplexes.
Tickets for movies in Karnataka are worth £200 in all theaters
The £The price 200 is without taxes and will enter into force from the date of the final publication in the official Journal.
This step comes as part of the government’s efforts to increase the availability of cinema and control of rising ticket prices concerning interest among the participating parties of films and industrial parties. The aim of the rule is to balance the availability of viewers and at the same time support the interests of the local film industry.
However, some exceptions were made. The £200 CAP will not apply to premium cinemas with multiple screens with 75 seats or less that offer top viewing experiences. These places can continue to set higher prices.
The decision follows months of discussion and feedback. In July 2025, the state government used its authority under Section 19 of the Karnataka Cinema (Control) of 1964 of the 1964 proposal and called on the proposals of the stakeholders. After reviewing all feedback, the modified rules were completed.
This step was welcomed by many in the film industry Kannada, who have long defended at fairer prices. They say that Kannada-Jazyk often loses the visibility and sharing of the audience when ticket prices are too high, especially compared to films with a large budget in other languages.
This prices regulation is expected to encourage more people to watch local films in theaters and help industry growth. It also brings relief to regular kinemators who are struggling with increasing the cost of entertainment.
When the new prices are being prepared for introduction, Karnataka becomes one of the few Indian states that take direct steps to regulate the price of cinematone tickets. The sectors and the public are now waiting for an official announcement of the Bulletin to confirm when £200 CAP will come into effect.
