A 31-year-old Bangladeshi woman was arrested by Hosdur police after she was taken into custody from near Kanhangad railway station on Tuesday for allegedly entering and staying in India without valid travel documents.

The woman, identified as Salman Khatun, was found under suspicious circumstances during a police patrol around 9:15 am. Police said she initially claimed to be looking for work and later revealed she was a Bangladeshi national.

During questioning, police examined her mobile phone and allegedly found details of a Bangladeshi identity card confirming her nationality in an app installed on the device. Officers said she was unable to provide a clear explanation of how she got to India and admitted that she did not have a valid visa, passport or other documents required to legally stay in the country.

Investigators also found that she had been staying in the Perinthalmann area. The police recovered certain identification documents and gold ornaments from her bag.

After recording her statement, the police formally arrested her and took her for a medical examination.

A case has been registered under Section 3(1) and 21 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025 for allegedly illegally entering and staying in India.
