Deputy Commissioner of Police (ACP) Thrikkakara has ruled out registering a case over a complaint filed by actor Ansiba Hassan against co-star Lakshmipriya and female cell constable Thripunithura.
The ACP has submitted a report to District Superintendent of Police (Kochi City) Kaliraja Mahesh Kumar stating that there are no grounds to pursue the complaint, a city police officer confirmed on Wednesday.
Ms. Hassan, a former joint secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), in her complaint accused AMMA Vice-President Lakshmipriya of filing a false complaint against her and Sub-Inspector Reshma of subjecting her to harassment and illegal detention in the name of verifying the allegations against her.
The ACP submitted its report after a preliminary investigation which included recording the statements of the persons involved and examining the CCTV footage of Thripunithura station. The officer reportedly informed the District Superintendent of Police that Ms. Lakshmipriya had filed a complaint against Ms. Hassan based on an ambiguous message she had sent which allegedly caused trouble in Ms. Lakshmipriya’s family. The police officer had only done her duty by calling Ms Hassan to the station to verify the allegations and it was not an illegal detention, the ACP is said to have informed his superior.
The ACP noted Ms. Hassan’s May 31 statement.
The police are also of the opinion that the complaint filed by Ms. Lakshmipriya against Ms. Hassan does not merit registration of an FIR.
Moves Court: Ansiba
Meanwhile, in response to the ACP report, Ms Hassan said she would move the court with her complaint. She said she decided to file a police complaint as she felt “insulted” by SI Reshma’s act of allegedly allowing Ms. Lakshmipriya and her husband to join her while he was “interrogating” her in the name of verifying the complaint against her.
She reiterated that she was forced to write an apology to Ms. Lakshmipriya and that the sub-inspector did not initially allow her to keep a copy of the letter with her.
The latest development comes a day after Ms Hassan recorded her statement before the Kadavanthra police in a separate complaint filed against fellow actress and AMMA executive council member Tini Tom for making alleged communal remarks and derogatory comments against her.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Ms Hassan said she would approach the court if the police did not register a case against Mr Tom. She feared that she would “not get justice” as her co-star was often seen rubbing shoulders with various politicians.
