Shubman Gill becomes India’s highest-rated Test batsman, Jasprit Bumrah retains top spot

The latest ICC Test Rankings update on Wednesday, June 10 brought major news for Indian cricket fans. India’s Test captain, Shubman Gill, has officially become the country’s highest-rated batsman, while pace boss Jasprit Bumrah remains comfortably the world’s number one bowler.

Shubman Gill jumped two places higher to claim the eighth position in the global standings with 743 points. This impressive leap makes him India’s best batsman in the longest format of the game, signaling a new era for the national side’s batting line-up.

His rise follows a brilliant performance against Afghanistan in the one-off Test match in Mullanpur earlier this month. Capturing the spotlight as a captain, Gill smashed a brilliant 126 runs off 177 balls in the first inning. He was one of two centurions in that dominant innings, along with KL Rahul, to ensure a huge total and clinical victory for the hosts.

HARRY BROOK IS THE NEW WORLD NO.1

On the global stage, England’s Harry Brook climbed to the absolute top when he overtook his legendary teammate Joe Root to become the world number one in Tests.

Brook peaked during England’s recent match against New Zealand at Lord’s. On a very challenging pitch that became the talk of the town among cricket pundits, Brook scored a vital half-century in the first innings – followed by a duck in the second – as England won the game by 115 runs. He took over the crown from Root, who had an unusually tough outing, scoring just 9 runs in both innings.

BUMRAH AND KULDEEP RULE THE BOWLING TABLES

Among bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah is comfortably at the top of the world rankings with 870 points, even though he was rested and did not play in the Mullanpur Test against Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav’s wrist jumped up one position to take the world’s 12th spot. His rise followed a brilliant second innings spell where he claimed three crucial wickets to help India secure a dominant innings and 300-run win.

More red-ball action is scheduled soon, with England set to take on New Zealand again on June 17 at the Kennington Oval in London.
