Thiruvananthapuram Corporation’s sanitation staff were in full force on Tuesday evening to ensure that the capital would remain without litter the day after a week’s festivities. The cleaning unit after Onam was similar to the drive of the civic body after Pongal Attukal. As soon as the music concert in Nishagandhi, the last event of the celebration of the year, got, hygiene began their work from Kanakakkunn. Minister of local government mbrajesh and Minister of Tourism PA Mohamed Riyas launched a cleaning ride in the presence of Mayor Ary Rajendran and other officials around midnight.
Given that thousands of people visited the main city streets to see lighting and various cultural events, there was a lot of waste that hygienists had to deal with, huge. Although waste containers for segregated waste disposal were placed in most areas, a significant amount of litter was visible in the Kowdiar-Palayam section, which was a focus of festivities. Initially, workers collected bottles and other waste materials from the road, which was later removed in trucks. Then the machines were deployed on the blower to remove dust and smaller waste materials. The main roads were washed later. The cleaning activities continued until early in the morning. The company deployed hygienic workers on all days of weekly festivities to remove the litter from the streets.
