Beware of Reddit from Delhi is attracted to emphasizing the uncertainty faced by employees in the Indian unstable startup ecosystem.
The user who shared his experience on the r/Askdelhi platform community revealed that he was released only two days after connection to the D2C in the Saket.
According to his contribution, the man worked as a financial analyst in a company based in Gurgaon two years before switching jobs in July. Enthusiastic about his new role as a junior professional FP & A (Financial Planning & Analysis), he resigned from his previous society and joined to start in August.
However, things turned unexpectedly. “After going there for 2 days, the manager told me that they are now looking for a managerial role that can take over more duties and therefore released me. I just accepted fate and left the office,” he wrote.
The sudden loss of employment let him find another opportunity. “Since then, I have been actively trying to find the role of FP A, but I can’t get any. This is a serious tax on my mental and physical health,” Redditor shared, adding that he could not return to his previous society because he had already hired his compensation, which he personally trained before leaving.
Startups and the security of employment
The post has triggered discussions on job security and hiring in startups, which are often known for their fast environment and sudden shifts in business needs. Several Reddit users have expressed empathy, some of which offer work lines and others advise him to address the recruiters and expand his professional network to LinkedIn.
The user offered assistance: “If you are in AP in AP, billing. Let me know my organization is currently hiring and reference you.”
Another user wrote: “Name them and shame them. They can’t release someone immediately without severance pay.”
“It’s unethical. It’s not about money, it is a mission of the message. The least they could do is to offer a monthly severance pay and refer you somewhere else. This is a professional courtesy,” he wrote the third on Reddit.
“You can go legal for this second company Faltu you joined, but I don’t think you have time and resources. I wish you luck,” he wrote fourth.
“This is how the startup ecosystem works in India,” the fifth user wrote.
