Shocked Congress leaders from Telangana rushed to find out the exact case involving AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, whose Rajya Sabha nomination papers were rejected by the Madhya Pradesh Returning Office on Tuesday.

According to a document accessed by The Hindu, it is a private petition filed by a former Congress leader and a former municipal corporator from Tarnaka of the erstwhile Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation in the court of the 4th Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Hyderabad in 2025.

The appellant was a TDP elected corporator from 2002 to 2007 who later worked as TDP Mahila State Secretary and Joint Secretary from 2007-2010. She later joined the Congress Party.

In her petition, she named as many as seven Congress leaders including Kumbham Shiva Kumar Reddy (aspirant for Narayanpet Assembly Constituency ticket), Ms. Natarajan (Respondent Number Four), TPCC Chief B. Mahesh Kumar Goud (then Working President – Respondent Number Three), Vakati Srihari, Minister for Animal Husbandry (Chinika and Redspondairy Development), Reddy Dairy Number 5 Narayanpet MLA, among others, as respondents.

On perusal of the petition it is found that the complainant has filed a petition against Mr. Shiva Kumar Reddy. The complainant allegedly threatened her life by Mr. Shiva Kumar Reddy and his supporters. She named other Congressional officials on the basis that they were evaluated for “harassment” and “threats” but did not take action against the said person.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Punjagutta Police Station on 7 May 2022 and also at Cubbon Park Police Station in Bengaluru on 28 June 2023. Subsequently, based on the court’s instructions, an FIR was registered on May 28, 2025 under Section 223 of the BNSS.

The petitioner mentioned Ms. Natarajan’s name only once in the petition saying that AICC is in charge of Telangana. The petitioner alleged that all the Congress leaders named in the case threatened her to withdraw the case.

On the petition, the court of the 4th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Nampally, issued a summons to Ms. Natarajan to appear before it on September 17, 2025 and file an objection, if any.

Congress officials and police sources also revealed that apart from the notice served on her, no cases have been registered against the AICC in-charge of Telangana.

Interestingly, BJP leaders in Telangana selectively leaked the private complaint petition but did not share the copies of the FIR with the media. Efforts to download a copy of the FIR from the Telangana Police official website also proved futile.
