
The forest observer was injured in an attack by a wild elephant on Pillappar near Athirappilly, here on Saturday, the forest officials said on Sunday.
The wounded was identified as a Subhash, 45 years, a native of Pillappar, who worked as a forest guard in Athirappilly. According to forest officials, there was an incident around 19:45 after receiving the information that the wild elephant got lost on the road in Pillappar, Subhash, along with Forester Divacan, went to the area to take the elephant. While they were returning, the elephant suddenly accused of behind.
Leg broken
Both men tried to flee, but Subhash slipped and fell into a road thicket. The elephant trampled him, caused a fracture in his leg and injured him with a suitcase, a forest clerk said. Later, other forest officials arrived on the scene, took the elephant away and saved Subash.
The injured man was first admitted to the private hospital in Chalakuda and later moved to Thrissur. He kept several fractures and is admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), added forest officials.
