The delay in receiving the final seat matrix for engineering courses has prompted the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) to postpone the Common Entrance Test (CET) counseling schedule for 2026-27.
KEA planned to start the counseling process for engineering and other professional courses from June 10. Due to the delay in receiving the final seat matrix from the higher education department, the counseling schedule has been shifted by three days.
Sources in the higher education department informed that in the absence of the higher education minister, the final table of seats and fees for engineering courses has to be approved by the chief minister. “The union general secretary has requested the appointment of the chief minister and we hope to get the approval of the post matrix soon,” a union official said.
KEA recently released the draft seat matrix for engineering courses with 1,59,151 from 227 engineering colleges for the academic year 2026-27. Among them, 75,041 seats fall under Government Quota (KEA), 32,769 COMED-K and 51,294 seats were Management Quota seats.
Earlier, KEA conducted NEET and CET counseling simultaneously in the state. But this year, following the NEET question paper leak, the Union government took steps to conduct the NEET re-examination on June 21, 2026. Hence, without waiting for the NEET results, the state government decided to conduct the CET counseling at the earliest this year.
