Governor Rajendra Arlekar, who also serves as the chancellor of the Digital University of Kerala (DUK), has reportedly suspended the implementation of the decisions taken at the recent meeting of the university’s Board of Governors (BoG). The move stems from allegations that the RG meeting was convened by its chairman, whose mandate is said to have expired. It is also alleged that the meeting took place without the required quorum. The Governor also directed Vice Chancellor Saji Gopinath to produce all records and files related to the BoG meeting.
Although it is claimed that the tenure of BoG Chairman, Prof. Vijay Chandrua, ended in 2024, three years after his appointment in November 2021, the university insists that its governing law does not set a fixed term for the chairman.
According to DUK officials, the chancellor granted permission to run the BoG and then ordered that matters other than administrative matters should not be taken up for decision-making. It was also ordered that the proceedings be submitted as a report.
