
The Kolkata police vehicle, whose registration certificate (RC) expired almost a year ago, fatally hit the motorcycle riders on Tuesday (September 3, 2025) in the Bamanghata district in the West Bengal South 24 Parganas.
The police vehicle was part of the Saokata Molly convoy, the Trinamool Congress MLA from Canning Purb and the Mohammad Tajuddin motorcycle rider, who was a resident of Kareya in the city, succumbed to a state hospital injury.
According to reports, there was a collision and the police vehicle and motorbike were damaged in the accident.
The police vehicle, which was a pilot vehicle of the MLA, was registered on August 19, 2009 and the certificate of registration and fitness vehicles were valid for 15 years until August 2024.
The accident raised questions about how police vehicles could raise the rules. Members of civil society raised questions about how many police vehicles with a registration certificate have expired, on the streets of Calcata they represent a risk to people and vehicles on the streets.
The victim’s mother raised questions about how old police vehicles were allowed on the roads.
