Last year, 65 manned crossings were removed

SCR, which removed all unmanned level crossing (UMLC) gates across its network in 2018, also removed 65 manned level crossings last year, including the former six divisions across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Managing Director Sanjay Kumar Srivastava informed that on the occasion of ‘International Level Crossing Awareness Day’, efforts are being made to remove the remaining manned level crossings with roads/flyovers/bridges as well as height-restricted underpasses in the present three divisions — Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Nanded.

He urged road users to be careful while driving and not endanger their lives or the lives of others by disregarding safety instructions. Mass awareness campaigns, including street games, were conducted to improve public awareness of the dangers of dangerous behavior at level crossings, and special inspections were carried out at level crossings, a press release said on Wednesday.
