The UK government has asked tens of thousands of foreign students not to exceed their visas, otherwise they will be removed from the country, the BBC reported.
The United Kingdom’s home office launched a new campaign in response to what it called the “alarming” top in the number of international students who legally came to student visas and then paid off asylum when they expire.
Within the government campaign, the home office directly contacts international students using AE -mail text.
British Home Minister Yvette Cooper said the BBC said some foreign students claim asylum “even though things in their home country have not changed”.
Although the number of student visa holders requested for asylum fell from the year before, according to the report it is almost six times as much as in 2020, showed data about the department.
According to data about the home office, almost 13% of the asylum applications came to June, approximately 14,800, from people in the UK to a study visa.
Pakistan was the most common countries of origin, responsible for 5,700 of these applications, followed by students from India, Bangladesh and Nigeria, the BBC said.
“If you submit asylum a claim that lacks merit, it will be quickly and robust. Any asylum support will be assessed on the basis of constitutional criteria. If you do not meet the criteria, you will not receive support.
In May this year, the home office announced its plans to tighten rules to stop migrants using a university study as a way to enter the UK.
According to plans, the visas and the degree of completion of the course, which universities must meet in order not to risk the loss of their ability to sponsor future visas must be stricter.
Reform of asylum in the UK
Yvette Cooper recently said that the British asylum system needs “substantial reforms” because it has set plans to reduce record flows of migrants who come to small ships through the English channel.
Cooper said that the United Kingdom government will create an independent body for asylum appeals, increase retention and revenues of capacity, temporarily suspend the routes of the refugee family and change the way in which certain parts of the European Convention on Human Rights are interpreted.
“The overall system remains obsolete, sclerotic and unfair,” Cooper said, referring to immigration appeal. “We will soon set more radical reforms for the modernization of the asylum system and increase the border safety.”
