
Hypertension (high blood pressure) is a significant health problem in Karnataka, with the NFHS-5 report indicating a prevalence of approximately 25% for women and 26.9% in men in the age group over 15 than the national average, Dinesh Gunda Rao said on Wednesday.
“Silent epidemic”
The Minister, who began a sensitization workshop on hypertension and other non -transferable diseases, said hypertension was a quiet epidemic, and if it remains uncontrollable, it leads to moves, heart attacks, kidney failure and premature death.
“The finding of NFHS -5 shows that every fourth adult in Karnataka is hypertensive. This means that the Lakhs of people in our country live with a high risk of chronic diseases and sudden medical emergencies, often without realizing it. Economic burden is also significant.
With the statement that the Minister of Health requires an urgent collective action – timely detection, selecting a healthy lifestyle and reliable therapeutic service, he said: “Our government has committed to expand screening, ensure medicines in every health and wellness center and community awareness.”
He said that screening at the community level within the national program for prevention and control of cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and stroke (NPCDC) will be expanded. “Lifestyle intervention, such as diet, exercise and reduced salt intake, will be promoted through campaigns to increase increases.
In childhood
Oncologist Vishal Rao, who spoke of child hypertension, said no state government was reflecting children on hypertension in schools. “Studies show the growing trend of hypertension in children, urban and rural areas. Factors such as obesity, fatty and unhealthy food consumption, lack of awareness of the condition of the disease and sedentary lifestyle contribute to high load,” he added.
