The city will be held two -day leaf greenery of Mel or “Sopp” had 6 and 7 September in an effort to revive the consumption of traditional leaf green, which were once part of local cuisine and food.
The event, which is to be organized by Sahaja Samrudha, Hulikada Farmers Producer Company and ICAR – JSS Krishi Vigian Kendra, Sutur, will take place in Nanjaraja Bahuudur Chlechtry.
Krishnaprasad of Sahaja Samrudha said that agricultural groups and community organizations met to introduce Mel, which will also create greater awareness of the nutritional value of leaf green. He said he was part of his efforts to restore the renovation of the diversity of food and food, and farmers from all over the state will show more than 150 green varieties, including Anne Sopp, SeeGe Sopp, Bereke Sopp and Honagonne Soppa and rare evenings like Kiracasali from Gokarna.
“Each was awarded for generations as a natural source of iron, fibers and micronutrients; yet they disappeared from urban kitchens,” added Mr. Krishnaprasad.
Growers from Kaad Halli and HD Kote bring and depict 25 varieties, while women farmers from collagondanahalli and Kanakpura emphasize Seege Sopp.
“Visitors can get the taste of Kalale Saar or try green juices and the traditional plate of Ragi Mudde with Bereke Soppu Curry – food that are still popular in rural areas,” said Mr. Krishnaprasad.
Mel comes at a time when leaf green disappeared from the kitchen, because city households have shifted to a narrow range of vegetables available on the market, he added.
Melo also proposes to link the diversity of food to the livelihood of the farm; According to Sahaja Samrudha, farmers will sell desi rice, millet, pulses, products with added organic value and traditional seeds. In addition, the seedlings of fruit trees and Belva plants will also be available, he added.
In order to deepen the public involvement, the organizers organize the cooking competition 7 September and participants can present traditional or innovative recipes using vegetables. In addition, there will be a drawing of the competition for children to be aware of the diversity of food from a young age.
Given the prevalence of malnutrition and anemia, the organizers believe that the revival of these neglected Greens is not only about tradition, but about food safety, health and ecological balance. By connecting urban consumers with rural growers, the fair is trying to bring the “forgotten” deciduous green leaf green.
