Two vehicles which were seized by the police and parked on the footpath outside the residence of the rioter in Malleswaram were set on fire by unknown persons late on Wednesday night.

The police have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators. According to the complaint filed by senior constable Mahantesh Matad of Malleswaram police station, the incident took place near metro pillars 167 and 168 on RP Road in MD block on June 4 around 11.40 pm.

Earlier in the night, a police patrol had visited the residence of troublemaker Kumaresh as part of routine surveillance to verify his presence at home. Shortly after the team returned, information was received that two vehicles parked on the footpath near the house were on fire.

Police arrived at the scene and found two cars on fire. Firefighters and rescue workers were alerted and the fire was extinguished.

Investigators said both vehicles had been seized in previous cases and were parked on the roadside near Kumaresh’s residence.

Damage is estimated at more than 3 million crowns. The police suspect that the vehicles were intentionally set on fire by unknown persons. A case was registered under Section 324(3) and 326(f) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the area to determine if the incident was linked to a police visit to the rioters’ residence shortly before the fire broke out. No arrests have been made yet.
