US President Donald Trump on Sunday (August 31) pulled himself to Governor Illinois JB Pritzker and accused him of growing violence in Chicago and warned that federal intervention could follow if the state cannot act.
In truth, the social contribution of Trump emphasized the weekend of fatal missiles in the city. “Six people were killed and 24 people were shot in Chicago last weekend and JB Pritzker, weak and poor governor Illinois, just said he didn’t need help in crime prevention.
The President’s remarks come when Chicago continues to fight the violence of weapons, a problem that has long attracted national attention. Trump has repeatedly criticized the democratic governors and mayors for their treatment of crime and often threatened to deploy federal enforcement of the right to cities facing overvoltage during shooting.
In the past, a democratic governor claimed that federal involvement in local enforcement of law undercuts state authority and few solve the main causes of urban violence.
Pritzker to violence in Chicago
On Wednesday (August 27), Pritzker pushed against Donald Trump’s threats to expand the federal operations in criminal proceedings to Chicago and said that the Democrats have already advanced in crime.
“We are also claiming crime,” Pritzker said. Trump said, “He talks about a good game. What the president did is make it difficult to take a crime.”
The mayor rejects the federal increase
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson condemned what he called “Out-of-Control” in the plan of Trump’s administration to flood the city by federal officers as early as September.
Johnson signed an executive order that supported the Chicago Police Department in promoting civil immigration, including patrols, stopping traffic and checkpoints.
The mayor said that all city departments must defend the constitutional rights of the population “in the middle of the possibility of immediate militarized immigration or the deployment of the National Guard by the Federal Government”.
When Johnson asked if there would be orders of federal agents, he replied, “Yeah, and I don’t take orders from the federal government.”
The intervention focused on immigration
Two American officials, according to the AP report, said that the planned increase would take about 30 days and focus solely on immigration, unlike recent federal events in Washington, DC, which rely on the National Guard.
Johnson: Trump “Threat for Democracy”
At a press conference Johnson accused Trump of abuse of federal power for political retribution against democratic cities.
“He is ruthless and out of control,” Johnson said. “It is the greatest threat to our democracy, which we have experienced in the history of our country.”
The White House hits back
The White House defended the plan and framed it as part of the wider pressure on Trump for “crime”.
“If these Democrats were focused on determining crime in their own cities instead of making advertising pieces to criticize the President, their communities would be much safer,” said White House spokesman Abigail Jackson in a statement.
