Kuki Extremists reportedly killed the leader of the Thadou community based in Assam, who attended a peace meeting with Meitei organizations in the capital of Manipuro, Imphal, almost a month ago.
Thadous pushed his distinct ethnic identity and refused to be a club like a Kuki tribe. Thadous was affected by the Kuki-Meitei conflict, which broke out in manipure in May 2023.
Police in the district of Karbi Anglong in Central Assam said that I did not crash Yomhao (59) on Saturday around 19:30 was kidnapped from his residence in Chonghang Veng in Manja and killed later. No extremist group Kuki has requested responsibility for the death of the leader Thadou.
“We arrested six people, including Kra (Kuki Revolutionary Army). They confessed that they had killed the kidnapped persons whose body was to restore,” he said on Sunday (August 31, 2025) to the Sanjib Saikia district.
He said the police were investigating to find out the murder motif.
Thadou, however, said that Yomhao was murdered as peace with Meiteis, which was considered to be the dictators of several armed groups Kuki. “Anti-Mírový group of responsible”
The General Directorate of the Association of Students Thadou and Thadou Community International (TCI) said Jamhao was killed in cold blood.
“I do not go to Jomhao because of his courageous participation in the peace meeting of Imphal. His opinion for dialogue and reconciliation dissatisfied with the Kukim Militants and the anti-eating elements that opposed peace and understanding.
He said that Jomhao was the guardian of Thadou, Literature and Cultural Identity, whose tireless efforts in cultural protection and building peace left an indelible brand on the Thadou tribe.
TCI said that Thadou people faced tireless suppression and persecution, especially in the hands of militant groups that are in line with Kuki organizations. “The assassination of Jomhao, a respected intellectual and peace lawyer, is not an isolated act of violence, but part of a long -term pattern targeted oppression, intimidation and cultural genocide against the tribal Christian community,” he said.
“This tragedy revealed the failure of administration and dangerous calming the militant groups of Kuki in the Assam and Manipure Suspension Agreement. These groups have repeatedly abused their position to wage war, suppress native voices and deposit the terror government.”
TCI demanded security for the leader and family of Thadou in Assam and Manipure and the abolition of SOO agreements, except for justice for the leader of the community.
