Lewis Hamilton’s problem charm and Ferrari showed no signs of relaxation because on Sunday 31. The incident brought the premature end of his race and expanded his stage drought with the Italian team.
Hamilton ran on the seventh round on the 23rd round and lost control of his Ferrari on the bank turn 3 when the light rain began to fall. The British slipped onto the painted part of the perimeter, lost the grip and did not touch the barriers. The impact set out on the right wheel and forced the deployment of a safety car.
“I’m so sorry for people,” Hamilton said via Team Radio after confirmed he was unharmed. Just a moment earlier he urged Ferrari to try to cut on Mercedes George Russell, suggesting that the stop of the pit could help him jump his countryman. Ferrari, however, has already favored Charles Leclerc, who ran fifth, for the first stop. Hamilton’s accident came immediately after Scuderia had another expensive weekend.
The timing also proved to be decisive for the leaders of the race who were able to stand under the safety car without losing significant ground. Lando Norris, second for McLaren, questioned the radio whether Hamilton’s accident was caused by a slippery white line on the wet circuit. When Norris was informed, he criticized the delay in the warning and identified the details of the “race of race”.
For Hamilton, it meant the second consecutive non-scone. Before the summer break he finished 12th in Hungary and after a bad weekend he described himself as “unnecessary”. Since its significant transfer from Mercedes to Ferrari in January, the British has to provide a stage for 15 starts, although it boasts a record 105 career victory.
The Dutch Grand Prix added a frustrating season in which Ferrari tried to give Hamilton a competing package. Previously, Hamilton and Leclerc were disqualified from the Chinese Grand Prix – Homilton for excessive skid and Leclerc for underweight.
At the age of 40, Hamilton’s pursuit of success with Ferrari continues to stop, and the Dutch disappointment is only deepening questions about whether the legendary driver can return to the winning ways in red.
