The Director General (DG) of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrived in Delhi on Monday to attend the first round of biennial DG-level talks with the Border Security Force (BSF).
The talks, which are scheduled to continue until June 11, come amid tensions between the two border forces over Bangladesh’s allegations that the BSF is sending undocumented Bangladeshis across the border through several land entry points.
The alleged practice, which the neighboring country called “push-in” and circumvented the formal deportation procedure, is one of the BGB’s key agendas.
The BSF has denied that it has carried out any “push”, saying the illegal migrants belong to Bangladesh and should return to their country.
BSF said in a post on X that the 57th Directorate General Level Coordination Conference between BSF and BGB has begun.
The BSF delegation is led by Director General Praveen Kumar while the BGB delegation is led by Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, Director General BGB.
The BSF said its headquarters received and welcomed the BGB delegation at the Delhi airport on Monday. “The conference is being held to discuss and discuss issues related to the border and for better coordination between the two border guarding forces,” the BSF said.
It is the first such meeting since the new Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) government was formed in the neighboring country and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power in West Bengal for the first time.
Last week, the BGB issued a statement claiming that it had successfully foiled 10 separate attempts by the BSF to “illegally push” around 60 people across different border areas.
The BSF said prevention of attacks on BSF personnel and Indian civilians by Bangladeshi nationals, measures to prevent cross-border crimes, prevention of entry of Bangladeshi criminals into India, incidents of fence-breaking by Bangladeshi nationals, construction of border fences, measures against Indian insurgent groups and measures related to confidence building in Bangladesh (IIG) will be discussed during the conference, BSF said.
The last such conference was held in Dhaka from 25 to 28 August 2025.
