The flood threat in Kashmir was released on Thursday (August 28, 2025), while the water levels in the Jhelum River and other water formations began to retreat, as the weather improves.
In the last 12 hours very few precipitation has occurred in the Kashmir valley, officials in Srinagar said.
Due to the release in the rain, Jhelum dropped below the flood warnings in Sangam in the Ananttnag South Kashmir district, they said.

Although it is still above the level of danger downstream in Srinagar, the water level began to retreat, they added.
The tributaries of the river also flowed below the flood level.
According to officials, the water also began to retreat in areas that were flooded on Wednesday (August 27, 2025). However, the monitoring of various departments continues and the teams are alert.
The meteorological department said that the weather in the valley was mostly dry during the day, but the short rain charm is probably in several places for late afternoon and late at night.
The magic of light to gentle rain in scattered relatively widespread places with the possibility of mild to heavy rain or thunderstorm in several Jammu districts is probably from August 30 to September 1.
From 2 to 6 September, a short magic of rain or Thundershowers is expected in several places, he added.
Anshul Garg, which concerns a press conference, a divisional commissioner, Kashmir, said that when the situation is under control, and there is no need to panic, the upcoming fourteen days will be essential.
“Water levels are retreating, the levels in Sangam and Ram Munshibagag retreat, and the weather forecast is similar for the next few days,” he said.
“If rain is predicted, our teams will work continuously. I also hope that we will continue to receive the same cooperation from the people we have received,” he said.
Garg urged people to stay on alert and follow the advice issued by administration and meteorological department.
“People living near streams and tributaries must remain alert because the next 10-15 days are important. Our teams for the management of disasters in the district will be on the ground to monitor the situation continuously,” he said.
“District emergency check rooms and emergency control rooms at the level of trade unions will continue to work continuously so that people can address administration,” he added.
Garg said that while these are short-term measures for the next 15-20 days before the weather is not improved and the monsoon system retreats, long-term measures should be taken.
He invited proposals from people to medium and long -term measures that need to be taken to deal with any such eventuality in the coming years.
“We also have instructions on working on long -term measures,” he said.
The divisional commissioner praised the department for his good work.
“We were able to learn from past challenges and take measures accordingly,” he said.
The waters reached a ten -year maximum in Sangam and Ram Munshibagh, but there was no loss, Garg said.
“This also tells you about good renewal work. There may be challenges, but I assure you that they will be explored and measures will be taken,” he said.
Asked about the disturbance of the Garg mobile connectivity, he said that there was extensive damage to the optical fiber cables in Jammu, but the teams are working on renewal.
Hopefully, complete renewal will take place in the next few hours, he said.
