The Special Intensive Review (SIR) of the Election Commission of India aims to ensure that the electoral rolls are cleaned and error-free. All the officers are expected to work towards achieving these goals, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Mohammad Roshan said in Belagavi on Monday.
At the meeting at Suvarna Soudha, Mr. Roshan asked the officers to take all steps to ensure that no eligible voter remains in the voter’s list.
“We need full cooperation of voters and political parties to ensure a successful SIR. Officers should clarify all the doubts in people’s minds,” he said.
“Some political parties are raising concerns about the quality of the voter list and deletion of deceased and displaced voters from the list. All these issues need to be answered through a proper SIR,” he said.
“Maintaining the integrity of the voter list is a basic requirement for elections. Errors, repetitions and duplications may have crept into the lists due to reasons such as movement of voters from place to place due to rapid urbanisation, migration for education and livelihood or otherwise. During SIR, booth level officials and others empowered for this purpose should visit the voters’ houses to fill in their voter details at least three times based on the previous forms. List and submit the application along with any documents requested by the BLO will then verify and record them in the software Officers should make it clear to the voters that there is no option to remove names from the electoral roll if they produce the necessary documents so that new names can be included in the electoral roll,” said the Deputy Commissioner.
SIR has started in several states and will be held from June 30 to October 7 in Belagavi district.
All the preparations for SIR in the district have been done. The police officers carefully check all changes and take the list of voters as the basis of a special comprehensive review of the list of voters held in 2002.
To date, the list of voters of 18 representative districts of the district has been mapped. Out of 41,22,869 voters, the mapping work of 38,22,990 voters has been completed and 93% progress has been achieved in mapping.
Source person and Belagavi City Corporation Deputy Commissioner Siddu Hulloli said that the preparation and printing of voter list will be done from June 20 to June 29.
BLOs will visit homes from June 30 to July 29. The draft voter list will be published on August 5. From August 5 to September 4, time was provided to submit objections. Objections will be disposed of between August 5 and October 3.
He explained in detail the individual stages of the special comprehensive verification of the voter list, saying that the final voter list would be published on October 7.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Vijayakumar Honakeri, Probationary IAS Officer Rohit Singh, officers and leaders of various political parties were present.
