The family, who were visiting the MM Hills temple, were proceeding to Nagamala when the leopard is believed to have suddenly attacked the boy and dragged him away.
According to locals, the boy’s body was found about half an hour later, with his neck and other parts soaked in blood.
Forest department rangers reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and informed senior officials.
Locals have alleged negligence on the part of the forest department in the death of the boy, which came after the killing of a youth who was part of a group of devotees from Mandy on a padayatra to the MM Hills temple in January this year.
The ongoing leopard attacks in the region have created fear and anxiety among devotees and the public.
