Apple’s Siri upgrade may be delayed due to software bugs and engineering issues. The AI-powered Siri, first demonstrated in June 2024, features several new features and enhanced dialogue capabilities, and is expected to be launched in April. According to the report, Cupertino-based tech giant is considering postponing feature launches until May or later. It is worth noting that the Siri upgrade was announced as part of the company’s Apple Intelligence series, which has witnessed incremental releases since October 2024.
AI-powered Siri is reportedly postponed to May
According to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple plans to suffer from software errors and engineering problems for the AI upgrade for Siri virtual assistants. The report cites unnamed people familiar with the matter, saying that AI-enhanced Siri could be delayed from the planned roadmap.
Siri’s AI capabilities debuted in June 2024 when the company said it would bring three major improvements to virtual assistants. First, the assistant will be able to personalize its response by combining usage data. Second, Siri can also control certain applications to complete complex application-based tasks. Third, it can also see the user’s device based on this and answer queries. In addition, Siri is said to understand and respond to natural language conversations as well.
These features will greatly upgrade the current Siri level, which is considered to be behind the competition. However, the reported delay means it may take longer for the company to roll out an upgraded virtual assistant to users.
According to the report, the tech giant initially planned to launch the upgraded Siri with the iOS 18.4 update, which is expected to ship in April. Now, it is said that it will take until May, and the iOS 18.5 update will be launched. Apple is also reportedly able to ship AI-powered Siri using the planned iOS 18.4 update, but it still turns off certain features.
While the full scope of the Siri issue is not yet clear, Gurman claims that employees testing the new Siri find that AI features don’t work continuously. In addition, some errors were added to the company’s problems. Apple is said to be working overtime to ensure the feature is released on time, but iOS 18.4 developer Beta is scheduled to be launched next week, which could be a tight schedule.
