Earthquake in the Philippines LIVE Updates: A large 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit the southern coast of the Philippines on Monday morning, sending a tsunami warning to the region. According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, tsunami waves were possible “within the next three hours” along the coasts of the Philippines, Indonesia, Palau, Taiwan and Papua New Guinea. While there were no reports of casualties, a video purportedly from the Philippines showed a building collapsing after the earthquake hit Mindanao.
The offshore earthquake struck at a depth of 35 kilometers (22 miles) off the island of Mindanao, the USGS said. A tsunami warning was also issued in Malaysia.
