Thunderstorms likely in parts of AP; heat conditions to continue
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in several parts of the state on Monday and Tuesday, even as heatwave conditions are expected to persist in many districts.
APSDMA Executive Director Prakhar Jain said on Sunday that a trough extending from Karnataka to Coastal Andhra is likely to produce light to moderate rains accompanied by thundershowers and lightning over parts of Alluri Sitharama Raju, Polavaram, Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai and YSR Kadapa districts. Isolated places in other districts are likely to experience light rain with lightning.
Mr. Jain advised people not to hide under trees, electric poles or piles during the thunderstorm. Farmers and ranchers were urged to remain vigilant and move to safer areas at the first sign of thunderstorms or dark clouds. People were also warned to stay away from downed power lines.
The APSDMA has advised people, especially the elderly, pregnant women and nursing mothers, to take precautions against the extreme heat. Residents were urged to avoid unnecessary sun exposure, stay hydrated by drinking water, buttermilk, lemon water and coconut water and take extra care if they have heart disease, diabetes or high blood pressure.
