Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), who captured potholes, said that 264 potholes identified is “irreparable” and requires a partial transformation.
On August 11, BBMP received a list of 4 614 potholes throughout the city from the Bengalur Traffic Police. After their filtering BBMP, he identified 3,995 potholes in his jurisdiction. Among them, the eastern zone recorded the highest number with 784, followed by Mahadevapura (638), Southern Zone (593) and Bommanahalli (520).
Of the 3,995 potholes, 264 were found to be worse than conventional potholes, as they extend the length of more than 8 to 10 mA are wider than usual.
Raghanendra Prasad, the main engineer (road infrastructure), admitted that the damage in many of these sections is outside the basic repair and requires fresh handover due to the extent of deterioration.
“More such sections will be identified as soon as the ongoing work in the area of potholes is completed. We will study damage and come up with suitable methods to repair such sections,” said Mr. Prasad Hindu.
Plants for complaint platforms
Mr. Prasad also revealed that his department has developed a unified control panel that integrates all BBMP and help platforms. This system consolidates civil complaints about potholes for a single instrument panel, which then automatically assigns this problem to powerful engineers responsible for repair.
He urged citizens to record photos of damaged roads on official complaints platforms so that the repairs could start immediately.
However, commuting on the outskirts of the city accused the civic body of avoiding responsibility. Manoj Kumar, a resident of Varthura who commutes daily through Sarjapur Road, noted that BBMP often ignores his complaints by quoting “jurisdiction” problems.
BBMP manager rejected these accusations and said the BBMP immediately repairs the potholes listed on the official platforms of the complaint within its limits, although he admitted that in some cases there was a delay. He attributed the delay of the earlier absence of a centralized monitoring system, which was now solved through the new control panel.
Mr. Prasad explained that the control panel helps identify and assign responsibilities to other agencies responsible for certain sections. For example, potholes were categorized for agencies such as BMRCl, BDA, Bescom and others. The progress of all such works is also monitored.
