Manager Nottingham Forest Nuno Espirito Santo dropped the suggestions that he was trying to leave the Premier League club and described the rumors around his future as “absurd” after the Sunday tie with his side with the Crystal Palace.
Speculation intensified on Friday when Nuno admitted that his relationship with the owner of the Evangelos Marinakis club worsened and claimed that he was no longer built on trust. Comments raised doubts about his long -term commitment to the city country, but the Portuguese coach quickly moved to clarify his attitude.
“Absolute nonsense. Absurd. This story, it’s absurd,” Nuno told reporters. “We focus on the game and that is more important. Make sure the players are ready. This game will be very hard.”
When Nuno asked directly by Sky Sports, if he is maneuvering behind the scenes to ensure the departure, he was strong: “It makes no sense. Of course I want to stay.”
Fifty -year -old confirmed that he had already spoken to Marinakis and the new Global Football Head of EDU about transmission plans. “Yes, that’s what we have to do and we’ll do it,” he said.
Despite his strong denial, Nuno’s remarks about his tense relationship with Marinakis had surprised a lot in the club earlier in the week. He openly admitted that while the last season spoke “almost daily”, their bond has cooled in recent months.
“Our relationship has changed,” he said on Friday. “It’s not so close, it’s not every day. It’s not good. I think everyone in the club should be together, but it’s not a reality.”
This change in time coincided with the advent of EDU, which was entrusted with the supervision of recruitment through the network of Marinanicis with more club networks. Reports suggest that disagreements regarding the transmission strategy have led to tension, with Nuno feared reduced roles in players’ signatures.
This is not the first point of flash between the owner and the manager. Last season, Marinakis attacked the city ground playground after a draw of 2-2 with Leicester City to face Nuno, although the club later downplayed the incident as an attacker Taiwo Awoniyi.
Marinakis, however, showed financial support this summer and this summer he sanctioned signatures, including Omari Hutchinson, Arnaud Kalimuend and Douglas Luiz.
Looking forward Nuno insisted that its focus remains on the playground rather than on politics outside the field. “Of course, the situation must be resolved and we are responsible people. We can have a good conversation to create a good platform for what is more important – a team,” he said.
The forest is currently the fourth on the Premier League table with four points from their opening two matches. Another face of West Ham United.
