Spectitler and General Auditor’s reports (CAG) on Bruhhat Bengalur Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) during the 2017-2022 period raised objections to several works and a recommended revival of CRORE 1,229 GBP from eing suppliers and officials.
However, the state government asked to explain the relevant unit heads, explored the answers and recommended to cancel the objections.
This was revealed in the Karnataka Legislative Council, when the Minister and Minister of Development Minister Bengaluru DK Shivakumar answered the question of the nominated HP Sudham Das, MLC, on August 14.
While Mr. Das asked how much “fraud” CAG discovered during the BBMP audit from 2017-18 to 2021-22, Mr. Shivakumar said it could not be called “fraud”, but CAG called the works that “mistakes”. Since the audit report does not mean any of these works “unlawful”, no suppliers have been registered against any suppliers, but because the works were described as defective, the BBMP initiated an investigation of the Ministry (DE) against several officials, the states of responses.
On the question of how much it was obtained from eing officials and suppliers according to CAG recommendations, Mr. Shivakumar replied that the explanation was sought from the heads of unit supervision of work marked with audit reports, and the government recommended to cancel objections on their answers and conducts received.
It should be remembered that the Congress Government also created four teams of officials to explore works in BBMP during the BJP regime, and later withdrew it because Judge HN Nagamohan Das Commission was probed.
NS Mukunda of Bengalur Praja Vedike said that no money from suppliers and officials for defective works made the whole process of audit with a farce. “After submitting our objections to the recent five corporations, we have suggested that each of these corporations must have an internal audit department of CAG auditors to ensure that the objections are raised before paying money and not later as afterlife,” he said.
