₹ 1 crore salary in New York seems ‘small’ – Indian says ₹ 25 LPA in India is better than massive package in US | Today’s news

Seemingly massive 1 million salary in New York is not really as big as it sounds, said an Indian living in the United States. In a viral Instagram post, Yash Sharma claimed that it was a professional creation 25-30 lakh per annum in India is probably more “happy” and comfortable than their New York counterpart.

He pointed out that federal taxes, housing costs, health care and lifestyle expenses often eat up New York’s supposedly higher salary, and he argued that after those expenses, take home pay is significantly reduced.

“The dark side of an 1 Crore package in New York (USA),” Sharma captioned his viral Instagram video.

In a viral video, Sharma revealed the “truth” about New York’s high pay package, saying, “…federal tax, state tax, New York tax, social security and medicare mean that 35 to 40 percent of your million dollar package just went to tax.”

He also shared that the rent for a basic flat in New York is easily around 2-3 lakhs per month. “Now, if you have to live in New York, you will have to rent a house here, and renting a house here can be stopped at two to three million rupees,” Sharma said.

“So I think the guy is making money. 25 lakh rupees in India is happier than a guy with a package 1 million in New York,” he added.

Sharma also noted that the air in New York stinks.

How netizens reacted:

Social media users have had mixed reactions to Yash Sharma’s viral post. While some users highlighted the additional challenges of being in the US, saying “you’re on your own, managing your home and work”, others noted that the comparison was unfair.

“Rent in Mumbai>>> Rent in USA,” the user pointed out.

Another user said: “40% tax, 100% high quality services from govt. India 30% income tax, 18% GST, 0% quality govt services.”

One user commented, “India main tax rate percent log dete hai 5% se kaam fir chilatein usa jise chahiye..India main free hai medical treatment up to 5 lakh…but in US health insurance will not be available for you, your house will be sold even for a minor illness.”

“NYC is nyc bro it’s way better than us everyday!” said the user. “World class facilities, infrastructure, professional PPL/work system…he left the chat,” added another.

Several Indians also suggested that Sharma should return to India as he has such a problem with the US.

“Come back bhai waha kyu ho aap,” the user said. “Bhai India Aa Jao Welcome home in advance,” said another user.
