Former Punjab Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Executive Committee member Amarinder Singh met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda in New Delhi on Saturday (June 6, 2026), amid speculation of a return to the Congress.
“I had a meeting with Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah Ji and Union Health and Welfare Minister Shri JP Nadda Ji in New Delhi today and we discussed various issues related to Punjab,” Mr. Singh said in a post on X.
The speculation follows Mr Singh’s recent criticism of the BJP leadership over the appointment of Kewal Dhillon as Punjab BJP president ahead of the 2027 assembly elections. He expressed reservations about the selection and said he was not consulted.
Dismissing reports of a rift, BJP chief spokesperson Pritpal Singh Baliawal said on Friday: “He is not going anywhere. He is with the BJP.”
