South Africa sealed the ODI series against Australia in style and won a second match of 84 runs in Mackay on Friday to ensure a decisive 2-0 lead. The victory was powered by Matthew Breetzke’s Fluent 88 and Tristan Stubbs’ Stable 74 before Lungi Ngidi tore the Australian batting with five goals.
Together they maintained the fortress of South Africa over Australia intact, and this is their fifth direct victory of the bilateral series against their old rivals.

After soon lost Captain Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton, South Africa, the Republic took over through Tony de Zorzi (38) and Breetzke who mixed patience with aggression. Stubbs then carried the shifts forward, while the fast 26 Wiaan Mulder and Keshav Maharaj 22 raised visitors to 277 at 49.1 overs.
Adam Zampa (3/63) and Nathan Ellis (2/46) returned to Australia, but the damage was already caused by the middle order of Proteas.
Lungi ngidi rattle Australia
In response, Australia collapsed against the accuracy of Ngidi. Pacer rejected Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Inglis, Aaron Hardie, Xavier Bartlett and Adam Zamb to end with 5/42 and win the player’s prize.
Inglis fought hard with 87 out of 74 balls, but received little support. Cameron Green (35) and Captain Mitchell Marsh (18) started, but they couldn’t build while Nandre Burger (2/23) and Senuran Muthusama (2/30) added key strikes. Australia was eventually reported at 193 at 37.4 overs.
The result again emphasized the dominance of the South Africa in Odis nad Australia – five direct series of victory since 2016. After one game, South Africa remains on clean sweeping, while the Australian task is to save the face.
