Arlekar, Vijay congratulates Praggnanandhaa for winning the Norwegian Chess Tournament

India’s Praggnanandhaa became the Norwegian Chess 2026 champion after finishing the Oslo tournament with four consecutive classic wins.

Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Saturday congratulated Grandmaster Praggnanandha on becoming the first Indian to win the prestigious Norwegian Chess Tournament.

In a post on X Lok Bhavan, quoting Mr. Arlekar, he said that the Norwegian Chess Tournament is one of the most challenging competitions in the world of chess that tests endurance, intellect and poise at the highest level. This remarkable achievement of Mr. Praggnanandha is a matter of immense pride for Tamil Nadu and the nation. His dedication, perseverance and brilliance continue to inspire countless young minds across India, he said.

In a post on X, Mr. Vijay said that Mr. Praggnanandhaa created history by becoming the first Indian to win the Norwegian Chess Tournament 2026 with his brilliant performance. He achieved the remarkable feat of defeating defending champion Magnus Carlsen twice in a single tournament to secure four consecutive victories, Mr. Vijay said and wished him success in his future endeavours.
