The future of Alexandra Isak in Newcastle United has plunged into uncertainty after the dramatic public statement of the Swedish international, who accused the club of violating the promises and betrayal of his trust. The 25 -year -old striker, widely considered one of Premier League attackers, issued a strongly formulated Instagram post on Tuesday evening.
In it he explained his absence in the Association of Professional Footballers (PFA) Awards Gala – where he was named in the season of the season – and explained his desire to leave the club. “The fact is that the promises were given and the club recognized my position for a long time,” Isak wrote. “When the promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship cannot continue. This is where things are for me right now – and why the change is in the best interest of all, not just yourself.”
Isak’s report sent shock waves through the St James Park ‘and was intensified by speculation that linked it to Liverpool, which rejected 110 million offers for ahead last month. It is understood that Isak believed that he had a gentleman’s agreement with the club officials, allowing him to leave if the Top Club created a suitable offer.
Newcastle, however, firmly denied such a commitment. In a statement released later that evening, the club said:
“We are clear that Alex remains under the contract and that the club clerk has never been committed, that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer. We want to keep our best players, but we also understand that players have their own wishes and listen to their opinions.
Transfer drama: Liverpool’s 110m offer rejected
Liverpool is understood as Isak’s preferred goal. The Merseyside Club offered an offer of 110 million earlier in the summer, which Newcastle quickly refused. Magpies quoted their desire to maintain their best talent and difficulty gaining replacement so close to the beginning of the new season.
It has been 19 days since this initial offer, without an improved offer. While Newcastle holds firmly publicly, Isak’s camp continues to insist that there is a previous understanding, allowing him to leave if a “big club” came.
The dispute is an acidic turn in what was a fertile partnership. Since he joined Real Sociedad in 2022, Isak has become a talismanic figure under Eddie Howe and scored 19 league goals last season.
However, the tension was allegedly built behind the scenes. It is said that isak was frustrated After extending the promised contract and salary increase, last summer did not take place. Its current agreement, which is worth reported 140,000 a week, runs until 2028.
Pre -season injury
The situation further deteriorated in this pre -season season. Isak withdrew from the club tour of Asia and quoted thigh injuries – one source claims that it was not found in medical scans.
Rather than staying with the team, Isak trained himself in his former Real Sociedad club without announcing Eddie Howe or Newcastle. Its unapproved absence caused considerable internal frustration, and the club reportedly prepared for a fine for a maximum of two weeks of wages per Missing their introductory Accessories Premier League Against Aston Villa.
Since returning, Isak has been training alone in the club’s facilities, excluded from the full activity of the first team because Standoff was constantly escalating.
Newcastle is also allegedly considering disciplinary steps after Isak missed the opening match of the season against Aston Villa with a two -week fine.
Broken promises?
According to sources close to Isak, the root of its dissatisfaction dates back to last summer. Reportedly, he was promised to extend the contract with a significant remuneration agreement, which was later delayed or quietly postponed. At that time, Isak still had the remaining four years on his existing agreement of 140,000 weeks. Its representatives also claim that Isak’s desire to leave this summer was communicated in advance, especially if the Liverpool club showed the club.
From the point of view of Newcastle, however, no formal agreement has never been concluded. With ISAK under the contract by 2028, the club claims that it is expected that the agreement will honor if their considerable appreciation is not met.
Could Art in Article 17 an isak escape route?
Adding another layer to the saga is the possibility that ISAK will bring FIFA Article 17 next summer.
What is Article 17?
Article 17 of the FIFA transfer regulations allows the player unilaterally terminating the contract after the “protected period” of three years (for players under 28 years), provided that the club is paid a fair compensation.
Originally created under pressure from the European Commission, the rule was to provide footballers similar to other experts. Although it was rarely used because of legal complexity, recent reforms have made the clause more for players.
Isak’s position
Now he enters his third season in Newcastle, Isak can be eligible to start Article 17 next summer. Legal experts suggest that this could allow him to compensate for a far below 110 million bids in Liverpool, even half of this amount.
Importantly, the new rules place the burden of proof in the sales club, not for the player or club buyer. This could be discouraged by Newcastle from the implementation of legal regulations unless he has clear evidence of unlawful conduct.
While the use of Article 17 remains risky, it could serve as a powerful negotiating tool for Isak’s camp-and a convincing reason for Newcastle now selling now rather than losing his star forward for a reduced fee in 2026.
What happens next?
The Premier League window closes 1 September. From now on, Newcastle faces the main dilemma:
- Sell now, cash near their valuation and end the saga soon.
- Stand firmly because he knew that Isak could be distracting and relaxed.
- Call his bluff, but risk a legal challenge under Article 17 next year.
- Meanwhile, Liverpool follows the situation. If it returns with an improved offer that is 120-130 million, it may be forced to consider again.
- For the time being, Newcastle remains adamant that Isak will not be sold. But as the player clearly pushes to leave and the legal possibilities that are approaching, the club can fight a battle they cannot afford to lose.
One thing is for sure: this is formed as one of the most amazing and important stand-offs in the history of Premier League.
