Domestic LPG cylinder price increased by ₹29; the second increase in three months | Today’s news

Households across India will pay more for cooking gas after the price of domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) increased by 29 per cylinder, the second increase in three months amid increased global energy costs.

Citing industry sources, PTI reported that the price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi has been increased to 942 from 913 effective June 7.

Second hike on LPG since March

The latest hike comes after state-run oil marketing companies hiked LPG prices by ₹60 per cylinder on March 7 60 per cylinder on March 7 after disruptions to global energy markets linked to the conflict in West Asia.

Even after the latest revision, state-run fuel retailers continue to post significant losses on subsidized cooking gas supplies, sources told PTI.

Oil companies continue to face losses

According to industry estimates, as reported by PTI, oil marketing companies have been making losses 703 on every domestic LPG cylinder sold before the last price hike.

The losses have deepened as international energy prices remain elevated, driving up the cost of importing LPG and other fuels.

Officials said the latest revision aims to reduce, though not eliminate, the financial burden on fuel retailers.

Broader rise in fuel prices

The increase in LPG prices is part of a wider increase in fuel prices in recent weeks.

₹7.50 per liter from mid-May”>Petrol and diesel prices rose cumulatively 7.50 per liter since mid-May, while Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) prices have risen by approx 6 per kg.

The increase reflects continued pressure from global oil and fuel markets, which have remained volatile due to geopolitical tensions and supply concerns.

Gasoline and diesel are still sold below cost

Despite the recent revisions, industry sources said oil companies continue to sell petrol and diesel below their actual price, according to PTI.

Retailers are estimated to lose approx 11 per liter for petrol and 33.6 per liter of diesel, according to press agency sources.

The continued losses have increased pressure on state fuel retailers, who have sought gradual price adjustments to better align domestic fuel rates with international market trends.

Impact on households

The latest hike in LPG prices is expected to increase household spending, especially for families who rely on domestic gas for cooking for daily use.

With fuel prices rising across categories, consumers are likely to face higher energy costs in the coming weeks, although oil companies say current prices still do not fully reflect supply costs.
