Police in Delhi registered the case after six people were killed in the wall and collapse of Dargah roof near Humayun’s tomb in Delhi Nizamuddin, the official said on Saturday (August 16, 2025).
The incident occurred in Dargah Sharif Patte Shah around 15:30 August 15. Dargah shares his marginal walls with the garden of the 16th century, which in 1558 commissioned the first wife of Mughala Humayun in 1558.
The leading police officer said that the case according to section 290 (careless behavior with regard to the download, repair or construction of buildings), 125 (acts that threaten human life or personal security) and 106 (causing death negligence) was registered against unknown people.
Of the six deceased, one was identified as Swaroop Chand (79). Five injured are MD Shamem, Aryan, Gudiya, Rafat Parveen and Rani (65), said fire service officer in Delhi.
The police official said two dargah rooms, one of which was occupied by an imam and the other was rest, were in a dilapidated state and the heavy rain led to the roof and the wall collapsed at a time when 15 people were hiding there.
The representative of the Police Commissioner (southeast) Hemant Tiwari said: “After collapse, 12 people, most of whom were visitors, rescued from under the debris. Nine of them were taken to the traumatic center of Aiims, where five died.
The police said the man admitted to the LNJP hospital died during treatment. Another investigation of the incident was underway and the civil agency was informed about the incident for the next probe on their part, he added.
