The preliminary report on the collapse of the bridge under construction in Thorayikadav near Koyilanda in Kozhikode was submitted by the Minister of Public Works of PA Mohamed Riyas. The Minister’s office said on Friday (August 15, 2025) that strict measures would be taken on the basis of a report on the Keral Road Fund (KRFB) Council.
The bridge, which was under construction, collapsed on Thursday. No one was injured in the incident. According to the officials of the Public Work Department, the beam in the middle fell apart for an unknown reason. The construction of the bridge 265 meters began in August 2023.
Members of the athol and chemianchery forums said the incident came a shock for them. They added that the supplier should be responsible.
The government approved the proposal of the Thorayikadav bridge because it was expected to provide a viable connection between the election districts of the Assembly of Balussery and Koyilanda. In their absence, the inhabitants mostly relied on rural ships.
Meanwhile, the Student Union of Kerala (KSU) sought to investigate the wake of the bridge’s collapse. A member of the KSU State Committee AK Janib also filed a formal petition with alertness and an anti -corruption office that repeats demand.
