In an interview from the Red Fortress, Independence said that the recently approved National Sports Policy (NSP) 2025 would strengthen the sports ecosystem from the local Polympic Games to the Olympics. “Sport is an essential aspect of development and I am happy that since parents are used to mocking children to spend time in sport, we have reached a point where it has changed. Now parents are happy if children are interested in sport,” Modi said. He described it as a “good sign” for the nation. The NSP 2025, which has cleaned the Union’s cabinet last month, replaces the two -year National Sports Policy 2001. Its aim is to create a strong and inclusive sports structure with measures to ensure ethical practices, fair and healthy competition. The framework includes national agencies, interdisciplinary committees and financing initiatives such as “adopte atte”, “adopted and district” and “One Corporate-One Sport”. “To promote sports, we have come up with national sports policy after several decades. This would ensure the development of sport, from school to the Olympics. We develop an ecosystem, whether coaching, fitness or infrastructure … which penetrates the outermost corner of the country.” Within a few weeks of the approval of policy, the Minister of Sports Mansukh Mandaviya also ensured the passage of the National Sport Management Act in parliament and introduced a stricter regulatory framework for the National Sports Federation and a formal dispute resolution mechanism. The Prime Minister also said that fitness is an integral part of sports culture and urged citizens to solve the growing problem of obesity. “When I talk about fitness and sport, I want to talk about obesity, which is a huge problem for the country. It is assumed that every third person is expected to be obese in the future, we must reduce oil consumption to get this war with obesity,” he said.
