
The Chamarajanagar district administration in cooperation with women and children and health care departments and family care and an institute for speech and hearing all India (Aiish), Mysur, launches a “prayer”-a program for evaluating young children for hearing and speech skills-15. Research shows that about 14% of children are endangered by speech, language or hearing problems, which, if unadned, may prevent their overall development; According to Aiish, the aim of prayer is to identify all such children aged 6 months to 6 years in the Chamarajanagar district and provide timely interventions.
Through this ambitious initiative, more than 40,000 children out of approximately 1,400 Anganwadis will be examined. Screening will be done by experienced pathologists of speech language and audiologists from surgeons Aiish and Ont from the district hospital. Conditions such as speech delay, incorrect projection, stuttering, voice disorders, lack of social interaction, hearing loss and ears will be assessed, the press release said.
The initiative, scheduled for March 31, 2026, will be introduced in five stages – public awareness of speech and hearing disorders; Training Anganwadi workers, helpers, supervisors and staff “Poshan Abhiyaan” for preliminary screening; Specialized screening in primary health centers (PHC) across all chamarajanagar talos; Detailed diagnostic assessments of high -risk children identified during screening and subsequent interventions, including therapy and hearing aids for children in need.
By building the capacity of the local Anganwadi and medical staff, prayer will ensure sustainable early detection and intervention procedures in the district, while parents and carers will also encourage themselves to actively participate in bringing their children to the nearest PHC for screening.
